Eugene Ionesco's MACBETT
Translated by Charles Marowitz. directed by Matthew Woods
“Let us swear to trust each other completely!”
This fall heads will roll! Shakespeare’s “Scottish Play” receives an absurdist makeover in this dark and tragic farce in which soldiers and kings are merely puppets, and no one is holding the strings. One tyrant begets another as wives transform into witches, military men behave like children at play, and little boys are crowned king-for-a-day. But in this fool’s paradise, innocence is never what it seems, and from the battle to the butterfly field the only thing certain is that somebody must pay!
Presented in repertory with Whistler in the Dark’s production of Dogg’s Hamlet & Cahoot’s Macbeth by Tom Stoppard, as part of Double, Double, Toil and Trouble ~ A Witches’ Brew of Shakespeare, Re-Mixed! Opening October 27, 2011.

“...the physical production, which seems balanced between a British pantomime and a Kurosawa movie, is filled with striking touches...that stick with you well after the final curtain. Students of Ionesco - or simply students of intelligent, exploratory theatre - will find much to admire in this stimulating production of a flawed, but intriguing, play.”

“...a bewitching tale of ambtion, corruption... The members of Imaginary Beasts quite literally throw themselves — and pummel, somersault and tangle themselves — in Ionesco’s highfalutin farce.”
